I was taught from ages 8 – 13 by PM Henry McGuiness of Mid Argyll Pipe Band and I played with the senior band for a period until I was about 14.

I was then taught by Iain MacLeod (Who was taught partly by PM Donald MacLeod when he was in the Seaforth Highlanders) in Lochgilphead for the remainder of my teens. During this period I won about 50 – 60 medals in solo competitions which was my main focus and I left the band on the advice of my teacher to focus on the competitions. These were mainly in the Argyll area and niclude winning the senior local competition at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban aged sixteen and also coming 2nd on 3 occasions in the Burgh Cup at Cowal. The other prizes were gained at various piping society and highland games competitions. I stopped competing in my late teens except for the Burgh Cup at Cowal mainly due to work commitments.

During this period I played against a number of todays top players such as Angus McColl, Stuart Liddell, Gordon Walker and Willie McCallum. I was rarely good enough to beat them but featured on a number of prize lists where they came out on top.

I also played in a local folk band from when I was 14 and that eventually stopped when I was in my late 20′s due to the death of the founder of the band and the relocation of others. We played numerous gigs around local venues often for charity and played for a number of years as the main act on Hogmanay at Crinan Hotel which entertains a lot of high paying guests.

Since this time I have mainly just done a few weddings, burns suppers etc each year but am looking to become more active again.

As I said I am happy to audition. There are a few video clips on my Facebook but these are not of great quality as they were taken on an i-phone during the surrounding noise at the bells! https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=2858771198951 https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=2348369599230 The second link should take you to one of me playing at a wedding at the club a few months ago.
